Although Santa Barbara City College has invested millions of dollars providing on-campus parking, the lack of available spaces does remain a problem. However, because some students, staff, and faculty do have children, off-campus jobs, or health issues that require the availability and personal convenience of a car, SBCC does its best to make parking available to those who need it.
In recent campus surveys, many students have cited parking as a barrier to academic success. To ensure that parking does not interfere with academic achievement, students are urged to use alternative forms of transportation. Taking advantage of alternatives such as walking, bicycles, mopeds/motorcycles and the MTD with a student bus pass helps students to spend time studying in the library instead of looking for parking. Failure to use alternate transportation can lead to frustration and an inability to take advantage of the excellent educational opportunities at this college. Santa Barbara City College is here to help its students succeed. Coming to campus by bike, bus, or carpool may help you to do so.
Because some individuals must drive sometimes, ridesharing/carpooling is encouraged. It is important to remember our transportation choices do affect our classmates, coworkers, and the environment. We ask all students, faculty, and staff to take advantage of the many available alternative transportation options as often as possible.

In addition to offering parking spaces and access to driving alternatives, SBCC offers several services to help drivers and passengers get to and from their classrooms, offices, and cars safely and securely.
Security escorts are available to students, staff, and faculty day or night. Call extension 2269 or 2400 from any campus phone or (805) 730-4200 from a cell phone to ask for an escort.
A medical tram is available to help students with limited mobility that need help in getting to and from classrooms, offices, or parking lots. Those who plan on using the medical tram must complete the necessary paperwork through Disabled Students Programs & Services (SS-160).
Call Disabled Students Programs & Services at x2364 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. For medical tram rides after 4:00 p.m. call Campus Safety (x2269) to request a medical tram ride.
In the event of an emergency, call extension 2400 from one of the campus emergency phones. These phones, housed in easily identifiable call stations, are located throughout the campus. See the Campus Map for locations.
THEFT – Although it is rare, there is a risk of the theft of items left in the car. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to carry any valuables in the car with them when they leave the parking lot. If this is not possible it is strongly encouraged that items of value such as laptops, CDs, and jewelry, or even bags which might contain valuable items, be placed in a glove box, under a seat, or otherwise out of sight of potential thieves. Crimes of opportunity do occur. To decrease the possibility of becoming a victim the best protection is to remove valuables from sight.
CAR ALARMS – While SBCC supports your right to protect your car by using a car alarm, you should be aware that many complaints are logged due to classes being disrupted by car alarms going off needlessly. Operators of vehicles with alarm systems may want to lower the sensitivity of their alarms to reduce noise levels.

Parking Citations are issued when an individual has parked without the proper permitting or in an illegitimate parking space.
Unpaid parking citations may result in an administrative hold being placed on a student’s record. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will also be notified of all unpaid citations. Resolve the hold by paying the balance in full as follows:

2. Once payment is made contact SBCC at email@example.com with your K# in order to have your hold released. Please consider it could take up to 24 hours to process.
